Environment Protection and Natural Resources Minister Goga Khachidze visited the Shida Kartli Region on Dec.12.

Khachidze took part in a cleaning action together with staff members of the East Central Regional Administration of the ministry and the Gori Bureau of Inspection of Environmental Protection.

The area in Gori and its adjacent territory was cleaned up. Representatives of the Local Cleaning Service also took part in the action.

“Let’s declare this year the year to combat litter and wastes. It is a shame that there is so much litter on the streets. We all do this and we should fight with that,” the minister said.

“We appeal and ask everybody, this is our native country and we should care about it with a great respect.”

The ministry urges all citizens, government representatives and the private sector to take care of the environment.

Tamuna Aladashvili from the Environment Ministry told Georgia Today that the ministry is going to hold similar cleaning actions very often this year. She also said that the ministry does its best to combat the pollution with polyethylene.

“The cleaning actions will cover the whole territory of Georgia. The staff members of the regional bureaus of the ministry and local population will be part of these activities in order to support increasing environmental awareness not to pollute the environment and to clean as much polluted area as possible,” Aladashvili said.
