Georgian Defence and Security Conference
The Georgian Defence and Security Conference opened at the “Radisson Blu Iveria” Hotel on October 27. Georgian and international representatives discussed the new challenges within the global security sphere, the ongoing defence reforms in Georgia and the achieved progress at the conference organized by the Ministry of Defence of Georgia. The conference is an important forum for discussion of defence and security issues. The Georgian governmental and non-governmental organizations, the parliamentary majority, representatives from opposition parties, experts, high ranking officials from international organizations, the defence counterparts of partner countries and the diplomatic corps accredited to Georgia attended the conference. During two days the conference participants discussed important issues such as the NATO Agenda from Lisbon to Chicago, Georgia’s NATO membership perspectives, the Black Sea Region within the Euro Atlantic security dimension, the challenges of the security sphere, the ongoing reforms in the Georgian defence sphere, the main trends in military education, the view of civil society and its contributions, democratic control and its existing challenges and the way ahead for the ISAF mission.
Along with the forum, Georgian Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia and Vice Prime Minister of Georgia and State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Giorgi Baramidze held bilateral meetings with foreign visitors.
