Georgia still controls Ganmukhuri however Patriot Youth Camp burned

Georgia took control of Ganmukhuri, a village on the Abkazian administrative border on September 9. Last month, Russian forces bombed the Patriotic Youth Camp in the village followed by burning it to the ground on August 9, a few hours after the evacuation of the children from the camp. The territory has since been occupied by Abkhazian militia.

Russia agrees to pull out, but not from Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The peace mission and talks by European leaders in Moscow seem to be a success for Georgia and the West. After the long duration of talks between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev, Russia agreed to withdraw its troops from the areas outside the conflict zone. However, Russian troops are going to remain in Georgia's breakaway regions.

Georgian annual grape harvest begins tomorrow

The annual grape harvest begins tomorrow and the Georgian government has allotted 8.5 million GEL in subsidies for it this year. This decision was made at a government meeting on September 9. Aleko Tsintsadze, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, announced that the money would be apportioned from a reserves fund.

Sarkozy visits Moscow, Tbilisi – Russia reinforces its posts in Poti

On Monday French President Nicolas Sarkozy, accompanied by the European Commission's President Jose Manuel Barroso and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, is visiting Moscow where he will have talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. After the trip and talks in Moscow French President will head to Georgia's capital to meet President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Police arrest Tsotne Gamsakhurdia

Police arrested Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, the son of the first president of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, in Tbilisi National Airport on September 3. Gamsakhurdia was suspected of spying for Russia and conspiring to overthrow the Georgian government. Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s defense attorney Keti Bekauri stated that Gamsakhurdia denies the charges and will not plead guilty. She also claimed that Gamsakhurdia was on his way to Moscow via Baku. Tsotne Gamsakhurdia currently lives in Moscow.
